Travelling to Edinburgh


Edinburgh International Airport, Scotland’s busiest, hosts more than 40 airlines serving over 130 destinations worldwide. Located 12km west of the city centre, it is well served by excellent bus, tram and taxi services to the city centre, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes in light traffic.

There are two city centre stations, Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Haymarket, which are linked to all the major cities and airports in the UK with more than 20 daily trains running between Edinburgh and London taking just over four hours. The Eurostar service connects to Paris to London in just over two hours.


The AirLink bus runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, departing Edinburgh Airport to the City Centre every 10 minutes and has a journey time of 30 minutes.


The Edinburgh tram runs every 7 minutes from Edinburgh Airport to the City Centre, between 06:15 and 22:48. The journey time is approximately 40 minutes.


There are always taxis available at the airport taxi rank and the journey time is 20-35 minutes dependent on traffic and costs approximately £30-£40 each way. Uber is also available and costs approximately £15-£20.

On Foot

As a compact city, Edinburgh is a great place to explore on foot. Once in the city centre, most venues, hotels and attractions can be reached on foot in less than 20 minutes. For longer journeys around the city, there are plentiful buses and taxis always available.


The most efficient way to get around Edinburgh is on a bike.
